Hi, I’m Ana María
I’m a linguist with over a decade of experience as a professional interpreter, translator, and designer of language access systems.
I've spent my career studying how language works across cultures, and when I turn that lens to neurodivergent communication, I see sophisticated patterns where the medical model sees deficits.
As an autistic and gifted person who learned English in school and navigated years of cross-cultural professional work, I understand both the theory and the lived experience of operating between different communication systems.
I believe there’s a fundamentally better way of understanding neurodivergence (as a culture) so that when we engage in communication (especially across different neurotypes), we ALL get consistently better outcomes.
MY BODY OF WORK CENTERS AROUND:
-
Mapping the neurocultural landscape
I’m defining six regions of the neurodivergent cultural experience, and helping people create a vibrant home for their divergent identities… OUTSIDE of the medical model.
-
Reclaiming communication sovereignty
I teach the frameworks behind cross-neurotype communication (as intercultural communication), so neurodivergent people can grow beyond masking and become skillful communicators.
An unconventional approach
"We cannot live securely in a world which is not our own, in a world which is interpreted for us by others.
An interpreted world is not a home.
Part of the terror is to take back our own listening, to put our ears to our own inner voices, to see our own light, which is our birthright, and comes to us in silence."
